Finally!

At sixteen months and three weeks, I think that it is now officially safe to say that Lily is finally sleeping through the night (well, except for last night when she woke up at 4am but whatever!). She now regularly sleeps 10 hours straight and will usually go back to sleep for another 1-3 hrs after she wakes up for a snack at 5:30am. Do I wish that she'd sleep for longer in the morning? Of course I do, but hey, we'll get there one day.

The sweetest thing

Lily started hugging me tonight. She was running around the living room but kept coming over to me to lay her head on my chest and wrap her little arms around me.
She's given me lots of hugs before but this was the first time that she initiated one all on her own. It truly melted my heart!

How do you measure up?

Mothers are placed on a pedestal in our society. We are seen as the most caring, the most compassionate, the most giving. We are often viewed as self-sacrificing and altruistic. Mothers are expected to make decisions that are in the best interest of their children, their family, and last but not least, themselves. Society's current view of motherhood leaves little room for deviation from this. But, what if you are a mother and you have interests outside of your child(ren)? Is it ok to want to spend time away from kids? Are you a better mom if you can leave your child overnight? Or, are you an even better mom if you only feel comfortable leaving your kid for a few hours (or not at all)?

Catching up

I really didn't mean to get so far behind with this blog. Work, parenting and biking just take up so much time! I'm on holidays this week so I'm taking this opportunity to post photos from the last few months. Photos are in order from oldest to newest.

Funny girl

I'm amazed that a 14 month old baby can have a sense of humour. How is it even possible that Lily can know how to be funny? She is constantly laughing at herself but she also thrives on making us laugh. We drove home from Sunpeaks yesterday and she decided to hold a pop can in her mouth and fling it around. It was pretty funny to watch and made me appreciate the joy in watching a human being develop.

Daddy's girl

Lily has developed a serious fondness for her father as of late. Scott's always been a super hands-on dad and we both knew that Lily loved him but she is clearly expressing her love for Daddy these days. She cried this morning when he left for work and she constantly wants him to pick her up and/or hold her. I don't mind one bit as I love seeing the bond grow between the two people that I love the most.

Crossing the threshold

Lily has never been a particularly brave baby. Rather, she is quite calculated and methodical, preferring to be completely comfortable with a task before venturing onto something new. We first noticed this when she was learning to crawl and we see it again now as she gets closer to walking. She slowly figures out each details of the skill that she is attempting to acquire and then boom, she's got it! Her reserved nature has made her an easy child to parent but recently, she seems to be coming out of her shell and she's starting to keep us on our toes. She never used to venture around the house much and she would often just sit in the open doorway, watching the world go by. However, I left her sitting near the front door last week and when I came up from doing a load of laundry downstairs, she had made her way outside and into the front yard. All this from a girl who had never even crossed over the threshold onto the porch, never mind down four stairs and onto the grass!

Dog kisses

June 5, 2010

I can't pinpoint when it actually happened but Cara has had a change of heart about Lily. She still doesn't totally love her but she is much more tolerant of her and she seems to even try to play with her.

Who needs toys?

June 3, 2010

I sometimes feel a bit guilty about Lily's lack of toys but she clearly doesn't seem all that bothered by it.

Another step in the walking process

June 3, 2010

Just as quickly as it started, Lily's interest in pushing furniture seemed to pass almost as soon as it had begun. She loves cruising around using the couch as a guide but she hasn't pushed a chair around for awhile.

Crab crawl

May 16, 2010

Lily loves it when we chase her around the house. She sometimes crawls on all fours (usually when she's wearing shorts or if she's outside) but she mostly just crawls like a regular baby.

I'm sorry

I feel bad that this blog sucks now. I had intended to keep it going at least until Lily's first birthday but now that I'm back at work, I can never seem to find the time to post on it anymore. I have tons of pics and videos that I plan to put online and hope that I'll actually get around to doing that soon.

Too lazy to type a post...

So I'll just put up some photos instead!
